The children that suffer..
Have you ever wondered if the child who you bought the flowers from at the traffic light has ever gone to school?
Sadly, the answer is most likely not. In India, around 18 million children live on the streets, further 84 million children are out of school. The children living on the streets do not have proper houses; basic hygiene is a luxury. They are always under threat of being exploited or become entangled with human trafficking, substance abuse, and other criminal activities. Those who do have a shelter over their heads are often plagued by social demons like poverty, discrimination, early marriages, child labor, and conservative attitude towards disability.
Many of these children are not accustomed to the idea of education. They are busy just trying to survive in this world that education isn’t a priority. Those who do understand the importance of education are held back by obstacles. Street children do not have proper adult guidance, someone who will take the initiative to enroll them in schools. They lack the documentation, financial resources, more importantly, basic skills, values, and facilities that children who come from families that can afford residences are equipped with.
Help end this suffering. Help them grow!
These children are not just a member of their families. They are a member of our society. They are vulnerable, and they need our help. We can do so by empowering them with knowledge and skills to pave themselves a much better future. UPAY has set up Footpathshaala and Reach and Teach initiatives to reach destitute children throughout India.
Through these initiatives, we encountered so many talented minds waiting to be given an opportunity towards education.
If you want to see a change in the lives of these underprivileged children, please donate. Your contribution could go a long way in improving a child’s future.
